Our apologies, you’re quite right, this change wasn’t flagged in the [release notes for version 3.0.0](https://community.mrtrix.org/t/mrtrix-3-0-rc3-3-0-0-changelog/3552), which is when it was introduced1. [This is the relevant commit](https://github.com/MRtrix3/mrtrix3/commit/8f6dcb727), merged as part of [this monster pull request](https://github.com/MRtrix3/mrtrix3/pull/1449), which overhauled a lot of the backend handling for our Python scripts – there were many changes in this pull request, which is probably why this specific change was overlooked for the release notes.
