DWI2tensor help

Dear experts,

I am using multi-shell DWI and want to estimate the diffusion tensor. I used dwi2tensor and I was wondering how does this command work? Does it use all multi-shell images or does it in some way extract the b=0 image to just use that one?
I’ve read the documentation but am still confused. Thank you for any help.

It uses all the shells. If this is not wat you want to do, please refer to Question on Tensor Fitting with Single vs. Multishell Data in MRtrix3 - #2 by bjeurissen

@bjeurissen I’ve been wondering the same so this is interesting to read, thank you! From the thread you linked I understand that it would be advisable to select certain (lower) shells for tensor fitting - is there a reason why this is not default behaviour of dwi2tensor? Is this just to accommodate different datasets and let people choose themselves, or is there some other rationale I’m overlooking?

Yes. Exactly this!

Thank you! Just a follow-up: would you say that using all shells for DTI estimation (I have b-values = 1000, 2000 and 3000) is wrong, using dwi2tensor, knowing how that mrtrix estimates DTI?
