Is the pipeline up to population_template deterministic

Hi all,

A student has just analysed a group of HCP subjects up to the population_template stage. I had asked for a rerun just to confirm that the steps were correct.

The two templates are very similar but not exactly the same. Is this expected or has something gone wrong here?

I have never investigated this but I think it is deterministic, a possible exception I can think of are floating-point issues due to multi-threading in mrregister.

We have observed slightly different templates dependent on the environment (https://github.com/MRtrix3/mrtrix3/issues/1786). Did you generate both templates on the same machine?

yes - note that I am referring to the whole process up to that point not just the population_template command.

I will investigate further.
