Visualization of Asymmetric Orientation Distributions with mrview

Hello everyone,

I am currently working with asymmetric FOD images that I am building myself, and would like to visualize these images. However, mrview, which I am using when dealing with symmetric FOD, doesn’t seem to support asymmetric FOD.

Is really mrview unable to display asymmetric FOD? If so, do you know another convenient software to visualize them?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi @Gregoire395,

There’s no asymmetric FOD handling, and presumably no intention to support such given there is not to my knowledge any active research by development team members that involves such.

In addition to defining a convention by which SH coefficients are serialised across a 4D image, and all of the ancillary functions, one would also need to create the GLSL code for determining surface normals for rendering. Not a trivial endeavour; happy to assist in refining if someone is willing to put in the bulk of the effort, but not a worthwhile investment for myself.

Regards
Rob

Noted, thank you for your answer!
